Spring is Sprung!!

Spring is a very busy time around the Davenport household. It is a time of wrapping up hockey, kicking baseball season into gear, competition season for dance, and rectial time for dance. We have now attended three comps thus far; one in Markham, one in Richmond Hill and the last one in Hamilton. We have one more to go in Huntsville next weekend. The studio has done extremely well in these competitions against some very top notch studios. Shyla's groups have cleaned up with overalls in all of them. She is doing 5 groups this year and two solos. Her song and dance solos she has done well with; who can resist when she sings, taps and handles a prop. Her open solo(combination of acro, gymnastics and jazz)has not done as well. The choreo in it was much harder than last year with lots of technique in it; sail turns, pirouttes, roundoff backhandsping, russian, switch split, side split and the list goes on. Shyla has really worked hard to overcome and has improved from one comp to the next. The last comp, she came away with a platium (highest) and 6th overall solo (out of about 55) for ages 9-11 (only 9 year old in top 10). She was very pleased with herself and it showed that hard work and dedication really pays off. We had a great time in Hamilton hanging out in the dorm rooms (felt like I was in university again) and with the Step with Style team. I must say though, I am glad that there is only one comp left.
Ryley has decided that he wants to start umpiring this year and is taking the courses to do so; we think that it is great that he wants to do this. His first baseball game of the season starts tonight in North York and then he has a double header in Bufflo on Sunday. We are going to go over on Saturday with the RV and do some shopping.
Steve and I while driving the kids to their activities, need to open the pool, weed, get the gardens ready, spring clean and all that fun business. But we are thankful every day that we have such great kids to tote around and we are lucky enought to own a house and take pride in it.
